A Message From the Principal...
As the principal of St. Mary – St. Joseph School (SMSJ), I want to personally welcome you to our Website. Thank you for taking the time to preview our school. While we are a Catholic school, we welcome children and their families of all faith traditions. We also welcome children and their families of all racial and ethnic backgrounds. Diversity is not just a buzz word at SMSJ. Upon visiting our school, which we hope you will do soon, you will experience a welcoming Catholic atmosphere of openness and friendliness mixed with courtesy and respect. You will also be able to take note of our high standards of written and oral work. Come, see and experience this atmosphere for yourself.
We have teachers on the staff who are certified with the State of Connecticut and who have several educational degrees. The ratio of teacher to student at this time is 1:16, an ideal proportion, which enables teachers to assist students in a productive and effective way and to accommodate the more academically challenged students. SMSJ does receive a small amount of government grant money, which funds a full-time Title I teacher on staff to assist students with Reading and Math Skills. Needless-to-say, I believe your child or children will flourish in the hands of such a proficient faculty.
Our school is in the capable hands of competent personnel in three administrative offices. We have an active School Family Association that supports various fund-raisers and social activities for students and families. Our culinary and maintenance staff members are the best! We are very proud of our entire staff, all of whom work together to bring about a warm, caring, clean and safe school environment. You, too, can be part of this environment. I invite you to ask the parents of SMSJ students, the students themselves and the staff why they are here. Our school offers a viable alternative to a public school education at a reasonable cost. Come for a visit and see for yourself why we are so proud of SMSJ.
Sincerely in the Hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
Sister Mary Mark, scmc
